The Syrian crisis: What will it take to contain the current refugee crisis in Europe and build hope for the millions of IDPs, refugees and affected population?

The protracted nature of the Syria crisis has greatly impacted on development in the sub-region. Without hope of building a better future for themselves and their family, refugees are fleeing again – and this time for Europe. Already two years ago, UNDP called for upscaling support to the neighboring countries and for a comprehensive approach that integrates development and humanitarian efforts under the strong leadership of host governments. Subsequently, the Syria Strategic Response Plan (SRP) and the Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan (3RP) were collectively designed by national and international partners to ensure a more effective and sustainable response that strengthens the resilience of countries affected by the crisis.
